    THE BIBLE

We believe in the authority and sufficiency of the Holy Bible, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, as originally written; that it was verbally and plenarily inspired, and is the product of Spirit-controlled men and therefore is infallible and inerrant in all matters of which it speaks. It is to be the true center of Christian unity and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creed, and opinions shall be tried. (2 Tim 3:16-17; 2 Pet 1:19-21; 3:16)

    THE TRUE GOD

We believe there is one and only one living and true God, an infinite spirit, the Maker and supreme Ruler of Heaven and Earth. He is inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor, confidence and love. In the unity of the Godhead there are three distinct persons—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit—equal in every divine perfection and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption. (Ex 20:2-3; Deut 6:4; Jn 1:1; Acts 5:4-9; 1 Cor 8:6; Rev. 4:11)

    THE SON

We believe that the Son of God coexisted with the Father and the Spirit in eternity past; the Son had no beginning. He is the Alpha and the Omega.

We believe that in the fullness of time, the Son of God humbled Himself and assumed man’s nature by being conceived by the Holy Spirit in the virgin Mary. At His birth, Mary was still a virgin. Later, she conceived Jesus’ half siblings by Joseph. Though Mary herself was a sinner, the Holy Spirit’s activity in Jesus’s conception enabled her to conceive and give birth to a Holy Child. In the Son’s incarnation, He united organically and indissolubly the divine and human natures in their completeness into the one, unique person—Jesus Christ. By becoming man, He was made of near kin to us.

We believe that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life. He honored the divine law by His personal obedience, thus qualifying Himself to be our Savior.

We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins. Having a body, He could offer it as a sacrifice for us. Being God the Son, His sacrificial death on Calvary was infinite in value. By shedding His blood in death, He fully satisfied the just demands of a holy and righteous God regarding sin. His sacrifice was a voluntary substitution of Himself in the sinner’s place, the Just dying for the unjust, Christ the Lord bearing our sins in His own body on the cross.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of Christ and in His ascension into Heaven. He currently sits at the right hand of the Father as our high priest, interceding for us. (Isa 9:6; 53:4-7; Matt 1:18-25; Jn 1:1-14, 29; 20:27; 1 Tim 3:16; Heb 2:14-17; Num 27:11; Ruth 3:12-13; Heb 10:9-10; 1 Jn 2:1-2; 4:10; Acts 1:9-11; 7:55; Rom 3:24-25; Phil. 2:5-11; 1 Pet 2:24)

    THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He proceeds from the Father and the Son. His principal ministry since His advent at Pentecost is to reprove or convict the world of sin, of righteousness, and judgment; to restrain the progress of evil until God’s purposes to the truth are reached; to regenerate those who repent of their sins and exercise faith in Christ; to instruct, comfort, and guide God’s children; to sanctify them; to empower them for life and service; and to make alive their mortal bodies. (Jn 3:3-8; 14:16-18, 26; 15:26; 16:8-11; 2 Thess 2:13; 1 Pet 1:1-3; Rom 8:2; Acts 1:8; Eph 3:16; 1 Cor. 2:1- 4; 1 Thess 1:5; Rom 8:11; Tit 3:5)

    SIGN GIFTS

We believe that gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to build up the body of Christ. We believe that the sign gifts of the Spirit were given only for the apostolic era, providing revelation, and authenticating the ministry of the apostles. (1 Cor 12:7; Eph 4:11-12; Acts 2, 10, 19; 1 Cor 13:8-10)

    MAN

    1. His Creation:

We believe in the Biblical account of the creation of the universe, angels, and humanity; that this account is neither allegory nor myth, but a literal, historical account of the direct, immediate, creative acts of God without any evolutionary process; that Adam and Eve were created by a direct work of God and not from previously existing forms of life; and that all people are descended from the historical Adam and Eve, first parents of the entire human race. (Gen 1; 2; Col 1:16-17; Jn 1:3)

We believe that our Creator established human gender, biologically fixed in binary categories: male and female. Seeking to confuse or change the God-given distinction of the two genders violates God’s creative design and revealed will.

In light of God’s creative design, we believe that the Bible teaches that marriage is the joining of one man and woman, and that sexual intimacy is to be expressed only within the bonds of a Biblically defined marriage. Any other form of marriage or sexual intimacy is immoral and a perversion of God’s gracious will.

We also believe that we are only free to marry “in the Lord”—that is, we only marry another believer in our Savior, the LORD Jesus Christ.

Accordingly, the pastors and staff of Northeastern Baptist Church shall only perform/officiate in weddings and solemnize marriages between one man and one woman. Therefore, the facilities and property of Northeastern Baptist Church shall only host weddings between one man and one woman who are both believers living in God’s design for the believer. (Gen 2:18, 24-25; Matt 19:4-6; Rom 1:24-29; 7:2; 1 Cor 6:19-20; 7:1-5; Eph 5:22-33; Heb 13:4)

    2. His Fall:

We believe mankind was subject to trial in the Garden of Eden, in order to test his loyalty to his Maker; under the trial he lost his holy estate, was alienated from God and became depraved physically, mentally, morally, and spiritually, by voluntarily transgressing His positive command and yielding to the enticement of Satan. In consequence of this act of disobedience, the entire human race became involved in sin so that in every heart there is by nature that evil disposition which eventually leads to responsible acts of sin and to just condemnation. (Gen 2:15-17; 3:1-6; Rom 1:19-31; 3:10-12, 23; 5:12, 18; Eph 4:18; 1 Jn 1:8-10)

    3. His Redemption:

We believe that God has provided redemption for all men through the mediatorial work of Christ, who voluntarily offered Himself on Calvary as a perfect sacrifice for sin, the Just suffering for the unjust, bearing sin’s curse, and tasting death for every man. (Matt 20:28; Heb 9:11-12; 1 Pet 3:18; Gal 3:13; Heb 2:9; 1 Tim. 2:5-6)

    SALVATION, REGENERATION AND JUSTIFICATION

We believe that salvation is wholly of grace, but conditional solely on repentance toward God and acceptance of Christ by faith.

When the sinner has met these two conditions (faith and repentance), God regenerates and justifies him. Regeneration, also known as the new birth, makes the believer a new creation in Christ Jesus. It is instantaneous, not a process. It is accomplished solely by the operation of the Holy Spirit, through the Word, so as to secure our voluntary obedience to the Gospel. This experience is witnessed to by the Holy Spirit. The proper evidence of regeneration appears in the holy fruits of repentance, faith, and newness of life.

    (Eph 2:1-9; Tit 3:5; Act 4:12, 13:39; 16:30-31; 2 Cor 7:10; 2 Cor 5:17; Jn 1:12; 3:3-8; 1 Pet 1:23; Rom. 5:1- 9; 4:4, 5; 8:16)

We believe that justification is that judicial act of God whereby He declares the believer righteous upon the basis of the imputed righteousness of Christ; that it is bestowed, not in consideration of any work of righteousness which we have done, but solely through faith in the Redeemer’s shed blood.

    (Rom 3:24; 4:5; 5:1; Gal 2:16; Phil. 3:9)

    SANCTIFICATION

We believe that sanctification is the divine setting a part of the believer unto God accomplished in a threefold manner: first, an eternal act of God, based upon redemption in Christ, establishing the believer in a position of holiness at the moment he trusts the Savior; second, a continuing process in the saint as the Holy Spirit applies the Word of God to the life; third, the final accomplishment of this process at the Lord’s return. (Heb 10:10-14; Jn 17:17; 2 Cor. 3:18; 1 Cor 1:20; Eph. 5:25-27; 1 Thess 4:3-4; 5:23-24; 1 Jn 3:2; Jude 24- 25; Rev 22:11)

    ETERNAL SECURITY OF THE BELIEVER

We believe that a person once saved can never be lost for he is born of incorruptible seed. He is given everlasting life, is sealed unto the day of redemption, and his life is hidden with Christ in God. He is given knowledge and assurance of eternal life. He is assured of no condemnation nor separation. (1 Pet 1:23; Jn 5:24; 10:27-29; Eph 4:30; Col 3:3; 1 Jn 5:11-13; Rom 8:1, 35-39)

    THE DEVIL, OR SATAN

We believe in the reality and personality of Satan, the Devil; and that he was created by God as an angel but through pride and rebellion became the enemy of his creator; that he became the unholy god of this age and the ruler of all the powers of darkness and is destined to the judgment of an eternal justice in the Lake of Fire. (Matt 4:1-11; 2 Cor. 4:4; Rev 20:10)

    THE CHURCH

We believe that a local church is an organized congregation of immersed believers, associated by covenant of faith and fellowship of the gospel; observing the ordinances of Christ; governed by His laws; and exercising the gifts, rights, and privilege invested in them by His Word; that its officers are pastors and deacons, godly men whose qualifications, claims and duties are clearly defined in the Scriptures. We believe the true mission of the church is the faithful witnessing of Christ to all people as we have opportunity. We hold that the local church has the absolute right of self-government free from the interference of any hierarchy of individuals or organizations; and that the one and only Superintendent is Christ through the Holy Spirit; that it is scriptural for true churches to cooperate with each other in contending for the faith and for the furtherance of the gospel; that each local church is the sole judge of the measure and method of its cooperation; that on all matters of membership, of polity, of government, of discipline, of benevolence, the will of the local church is final. (1 Cor 11:2; Acts 2:41-42; 20:17–28; 1 Tim 2:12; 3:1–13; Tit 1:5–9)

We believe in the unity of all New Testament believers in the Church which is the Body of Christ. (1 Cor 12:12-13; Eph 1:22-23; 3:1-6; 4:11; 5:23; Col 1:18; Acts 15:13-18)

    ORDINANCES

We believe that Christian ordinances are outward rites appointed by Christ to be administered in each church, not as means of salvation, but as visible signs and seals of the facts and realities of salvation.

    1. Baptism

We believe that baptism by water is the public confession of Christ as Savior and Lord. It is a symbol of one’s union, by faith, with Christ in death, burial and resurrection, and therefore, is to be administered by immersion to those only who have given evidence of a faith in Christ as their personal Savior. (Matt 28:19; Mk 16:16; Acts 2:38-41; Rom. 6:3-5; Col 2:12; Acts 8:36-39).

    2. The Lord’s Supper

We believe that the Lord’s Supper should be observed by all believers in obedience to the command “This do in remembrance of Me.” It consists in partaking of the consecrated emblems of bread and wine, (unfermented grape juice), and symbolizes the death of Christ for the remission of our sins and our continual dependence upon Him for our sustenance. The Lord’s Table should be open to all believers who are in right relationship with God. (Matt 26:26-30; Lk 22:19, 20; 1 Cor 19:16; 11:23-26)

    CIVIL GOVERNMENT

We believe that civil government is of divine appointment for the interests and good order of human society; that magistrates are to be prayed for, conscientiously honored, and obeyed except in those things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ who is the only Lord of the conscience and the coming King of Kings. (Rom 13:1-7; 2 Sam 23:3; Ex 18:21-22; Acts 5:29; 19; 23:5; Matt 22:21; Dan 3:17-18)

    SEPARATION

We believe in obedience to the Biblical commands to separate ourselves unto God from worldliness and ecclesiastical apostasy. (2 Cor 6:14-7:1; 1 Thess 1:9-10; 1 Tim 6:3–5; Rom 16:17; 2 Jn 9–11)

    ISRAEL

We believe in the sovereign selection of Israel as God’s eternal covenant people, that she is now dispersed because of her disobedience and rejection of Christ, and that she will be regathered in the Holy Land and, after the completion of the church, will be saved as a nation at the second advent of Christ. (Gen 13:14–17; Rom 11:1–32; Ezek 37)

    RAPTURE AND SUBSEQUENT EVENTS

We believe in the pretribulational rapture of the church, an event that can occur at any moment, and that at that moment the dead in Christ shall be raised in glorified bodies, and the living in Christ shall be given glorified bodies without tasting death, and all shall be caught up to meet the Lord in the air before the seven years of the Tribulation. (1 Thess 4:13–18; 1 Cor 15:42–44, 51–54; Phil 3:20-21; Rev 3:10)

We believe that the Tribulation, which follows the rapture of the church, will be culminated by the premillennial return of Christ in power and great glory to sit upon the throne of David and to establish His Kingdom upon this earth. (Dan 9:25–27; Matt 24:29–31; Lk 1:30–33; Isa 9:6-7; 11:1–9; Acts 2:29-30; Rev 20:1–4, 6)

    JUDGMENTS

We believe that the believer’s sins are judged in Christ on the Cross, and that his works will be judged for rewards at the judgment seat of Christ at the time of His coming. We believe that the impenitent wicked will appear before God for judgment at the Great White Throne, after the millennium, to be consigned to the Lake of Fire, there to suffer torment forever and ever together with the devil and his angels. (Eccl 12:14; Matt 10:28; Mk 9:43-48; Jn 5:24; Rom 2:8-9; Gal 3:13; 1 Cor 3:8-11; 2; 4:5; 1 Cor 5:10, 21; 2 Tim 4:8; Heb 9:27; Rev 20:10-15; 14:9-11)

    THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED

We believe that there is a radical and essential difference between the righteous and the wicked; that only those who are justified by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and sanctified by the Spirit of our God are truly righteous in His esteem; while all such as continue in impenitence and unbelief are in His sight wicked and under the curse; and this distinction holds among all people both in and after death, in the everlasting felicity of the saved and the everlasting conscious suffering of the lost in the Lake of Fire. (Mal 3:18; Gen 18:23; Rom 6:17-18, 23; Romans 7:6; 1 Jn 5:19; Prov 14:32; Lk16:25; Matt 25:34-41; Jn 8:21; Rev 20:14-15)
